Please arrive at ___________________am / pm at the GI Lab at St
John's Hospital.
This is located at the main (south) entrance of the hospital. Enter
through the front doors and follow the hallway. The GI Lab is located on
the left. Please arrive one hour before your scheduled colonoscopy time.
You will need the following list of supplies for your colonoscopy.
They are available at any pharmacy.
- 4 Dulcolax
Tablets (available without a prescription)
- 1 Fleet enema (available
without a prescription)
- 1 container of Golytely (or Colyte) (this REQUIRES A PRESCRIPTION)
The day BEFORE your colonoscopy:
6:00am Begin drinking clear liquids. Stay
on clear liquid diet all day (see attached list for suggestions)
1:00pm
Take 2 Dulcolax Tablets
2:00pm
Start drinking Golytely (Colyte).
Drink one 8oz glass every 10-20 minutes until completely finished. (This
is a lot of liquid, but it is not absorbed by the body, and will pass right
through. If you need a short rest this is okay, but it is important to
finish the entire container within 2 to 6 hours.
5:00pm
Take 2 Dulcolax Tablets
6:00pm You
may continue to drink clear liquids as desired until midnight. After midnight, nothing by mouth except medications which may be taken
with a small sip of water.
The day OF your colonoscopy:
Give yourself one Fleet enema one hour prior to leaving for your
procedure. You will need someone to drive you to and from the hospital
and wait in the waiting room until the exam is complete. The exam
cannot be performed if you do not have a driver present. You will be
given an IV sedative and it is hospital policy that a driver be present!
